Product Info

The Doepfer A-140 ADSR Envelope Generator is a versatile module that can also be used as a modulation device. The A-140 receives voltages through the Gate input and generates a variable voltage, changing in time (an envelope). The module features outputs for both the normal, positive voltage, and for the inverted form as well. These are ideal for voltage-controlled modulation, or for processing the ins and outs of other modules. The A-140 is equipped with ADSR controls, giving you exceptional control over the shape of your sound. The Doepfer A-140 ADSR Envelope Generator is both powerful and flexible, and would make an astounding addition to any modular system.

Controls

A: This is the Attack time control. When the envelope is triggered, a control voltage is put out at the two Output sockets, rising to maximum in the time set by this control
D: This is the Decay time control. This is the time it takes for the control voltage output to fall to the level set by the sustain control (S)
S: This is the Sustain time control. This is the steady-state voltage level after the decay phase. This level remains the same until the gate is closed
R: This is the Release time control. As soon as the gate signal finishes, the control voltage falls to zero at a rate set by this control
ADSR Control: Envelope state indication LED.
Time Range: Three-position range switch. It allows you to select your desired time range for the envelope:
H: High. This time range can go up to minutes
M: Medium. This is the standard mid-range for envelope lengths
L: Low. Down to less than 100 microseconds

Inputs/Outputs

Gate: Input for Gate voltage. This is a switched socket, normalled to the INT.GATE circuit on the system bus. A gate signal on this circuit will trigger the ADSR, even without an input to the socket. If however, you connect a gate signal to the socket, then the connection with the system bus is broken and the ADSR is triggered from this socket instead. The normalling can be removed by taking out the small red jumper in the top right-hand corner of the PCB
Retrig: Input for re-trigger voltage. This can be connected to sources such as the output of an LFO. This means that whilst the gate is open, the envelope will re-trigger any time it senses a pulse from the LFO
Output (Below Retrig.): Responds to a Gate signal by putting out the voltage envelope set by the ADSR controls. Whenever the ADSR is triggered, this output carries the envelope voltage as defined by the ADSR parameters
Output (Above Inverse Output): Responds to a Gate signal by putting out the voltage envelope set by the ADSR controls. Whenever the ADSR is triggered, this output carries the envelope voltage as defined by the ADSR parameters
Inverse Output: Responds to a Gate signal by putting out an inversion of the voltage envelope set by the ADSR controls. It carries exactly the same voltage envelope as the regular outputs, but inverted, with negative instead of positive voltages
